The farm is situated in one of the 8 deep level air raid shelters built under one of Clapham’s northern line stations and the students were taken 33 metres underground to reach it. It’s so deep, it’s a further 15 metres below the tube.
Micro herbs are widely used in the restaurant industry and the students were familiar with all of the produce, such as rocket, fennel, coriander and mustard leaves and got to sample some at the end of the tour before being able to take some of the produce home for themselves.
The farm promotes sustainability as food is grown, predominantly where it is consumed, in the middle of the city. It limits food miles and keeps produce local.
