Training2Care partnered with South Bank Colleges to offer an enlightening experience called the Autism Reality Experience. Through their immersive and hands-on approach, they aimed to provide students with a glimpse into the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum. Developed by Glenn Knight, Managing Director of Training2Care, in collaboration with autistic individuals, the Autism Reality Experience offers an authentic and true-to-life encounter, giving people a better understanding of autism.
To kick off the experience, students received a briefing from the Training2Care team. Equipped with goggles and gloves, they entered the van in pairs. Once inside, they were immersed in a simulation, allowing them to perceive the world from the perspective of an individual with autism. This encompassing experience vividly conveyed the daily struggles associated with autism.
Overall, this immersive encounter proved invaluable in raising awareness about autism and enabling participants to empathise with the sensory and emotional experiences of autistic individuals. It offered a unique opportunity to gain insights and develop a genuine understanding of their perspectives.
