Johar is currently enrolled on the Level 1 Hospitality and Catering course. He enjoys learning how to cook for his friends and family. We spoke to Johar to find out a little more about his course and aspirations.
What do you enjoy the most about your Level 1 course?
I really enjoy learning how to cook for my friends and family. There's something very satisfying about others enjoying the food you created. I get to learn different skills on this course and I'm able to apply them at home and maybe one day in an actual restaurant.
What do you want to achieve after your course comes to an end?
I hope to join an apprenticeship programme at the college but I've got to do more research. As much as I enjoy my current course, I think I want to try something different and explore other avenues for me to venture into. Actually, a family friend might have an opportunity for me to do an apprenticeship in Italy.
What are your future aspirations in terms of your career?
I'd love to own a business someday. Something small to start off with.
How did you enjoy the demonstration by Victor and Ian, professional master chefs?
Yeah, I really enjoyed it. A lot of us were able to get involved and help them during the demo. I learnt a lot of top tips. I can't wait to apply it in real life!
Any words of advice to students who want to join the same course as you?
Don't be fooled by how expert chefs perform on TV. When you compare yourself to the experts on TV, you'll realise there's a huge difference and that's all down to TV magic. It's not a true reflection of how it is in the real world.
