We want to take an active role in shaping the future of south London
On our campuses, we are moving towards becoming more sustainable and it starts with our outside grounds.
For those of you in South London who pass by our Clapham campus, you may have noticed our campus ground may look a bit untidy. These scruffy patches are quite deliberate.
As we all know, the climate crisis is making it much harder for many species to survive. It doesn’t stop here, other factors making it harder for natural life to flourish include the use of chemicals, new diseases spreading and poor gardening practices which can adversely affect the growth of certain species and significantly threaten the future survival of others. In the UK alone bees have declined by a third in ten years.
This is why South Bank Colleges wants to create wildlife areas wherever possible across our grounds. We don’t use chemicals and avoid cutting back plants at sensitive times and try to vary which areas are cut at any one time.
